Intelliwave
IntelliWave’s
History
IntelliWave,
a local wireless internet service provider (WISP) was founded
in September of 2002 in Athens, Ohio by a group of local
business people. The foundation of our business model has
been to provide a competitively priced, broadband Internet
solution to underserved areas of Athens County. This solution
is delivered utilizing a fixed wireless network ring that
IntelliWave has engineered and installed around the county.
Our
network utilizes multiple wireless protocols and frequencies,
but our primary means of delivery is a proprietary 900MHz
Point to Multi-Point system. From this network ring we supply
turn-key, last mile, wireless broadband service to business
and residences throughout Athens County.
IntelliWave
Today
Over
the past two years our services have expanded to include
802.11 Wi-Fi internet access in 5 restaurants, three hotels/motels
and to more than 200 individual Ohio University student
off-campus housing units. This area of our business, refered
to as Multi-Tenant Housing, represents the fastest growing
segment of our customer base.
IntelliWave
employs 5 full time and 4 part time employees, all of whom
are residents of Athens County. IntelliWave provides a rare
opportunity for these employees to develop their technical
skills in a cutting edge, high-tech environment. With the
growth opportunities available to us we hope to double our
employment in the next 18 months.
IntelliWave’s
Future
IntelliWave plans
to expand our fixed wireless model to communities throughout
the region. Partnering with Ohio University as well as other
state and local entities interested in bringing broadband
to their communities is the key to our success. IntelliWave
will also be working with regional business owners to bring
Wi-Fi Internet capabilities to as many housing units and
public hospitality centers as we can.
Our
service offering expands beyond Internet access alone, it
includes Internet network management as well as end-user
support for our customers. These local efforts to bring
technology to the region are a win for municipalities, area
residents, business and visitors as well as for high-tech
job growth in the region.
